Distressed Scallop Edges Tutorial

Hi all!! I'd thought a do a quick tutorial on how I make my distress scallop edges. There are plenty of other tutorials out there, this is how I do it!! It's really easy and leaves such an awesome look to your pages.

I use the Bazzill Scallop Cardstock as my template.

Place the template on the back of your pattern paper and trace.

Following your trace marks, cut out.

Ink the edges. I use Chalk Eye Chestnut Roon.

I usually use my Zutter to distress large edges. But since this is a tight area I use a little scraper. Just run it along the edges. You can also use scissors.

Turn your pattern paper over and ink.I always ink the back of my pattern paper when I know I may be folding over.

Mist the edges with water, Glimmermist or whatever kind of mist you have.

Now, just fold or pinch the edges. Heat for faster drying time.

This is what it looks like done.

When applying to your background paper make sure the scallop paper is dry. Otherwise it may warp.

Here I just alternated the scallops that I folded.

Dyeing Diamond Dust Tutorial

Okay, it's no secret that I love Diamond Dust. So, I thought I do a quick little tutorial on how to dye the stuff.

This is what you'll need:

Diamond Dust

plastic spoon

tray (something that you won't mind scratching up)

baggie

Alcohol ink

Step 1:

Depending on how much of one color you want, spoon Diamond Dust into a resealable baggie. I used a whopping spoonful.

Step 2:

Add a least 2 -3 drops of Alcohol Ink( more for a larger batch) . I used Shell for Pink.

Step 3:

Close the baggie. Shake, rub, roll and squeeze. You know, mix it all together!!

Step 4:

Once the Diamond Dust is colored dump the contents on your tray. It may look a bit clumpy.

Step 5:

Now with your spoon rub and push to get the ink to dry and get rid of the clumps. If you like it clumpy skip this step.

See, back to it's fine shards. Pour it back into your baggie and use anytime needed!!

You can do this with any of the colors!!! Here is Copper....

and silver.

Cabbage Rose Tutorial

I'm love making my own handmade flowers. I was playing around with a technique that Lisa did with making Fiesta Flowers. And came up with theses little cabbage roses. I think they kinda look like the ones from Prima.

So here we go.....

I went with the Retro punches because they have the circle end that is needed. So, I'm not sure how other punches would work.

Punch out 2 of each size flower.

Lightly mist your punches....

While damp, take a rounded pen cap and push and roll into a mouse pad to get a little pocket in the middle of the petal.

Pull the petals up just a bit and let dry....

Do this to all the flowers except 1 of the smaller punch.

With the second small punch squeeze to make a bud.

Now, just start layering your flowers. Large to small and alternating the petals.

You can bend and pinch to get the look you would like.

Put the bud in the center of the other small punch.

Here it is all put together.

Punch out 5 leaves for the Martha Stewart punch and pink the tips.

Freehand cut a circle smaller than your flower and glue the leaves around. Then, glue your rose on top.

This part is optional. If you have Diamond dust or glitter, put some Glossy Accents on the tips and dip your flower into the tub or sprinkle the glitter.

There you go....a pretty little handmade Cabbage Rose!!

Layered Flower Tutorial

As promised, here is the layered flower tutorial. It's really easy to do and fast to get done.

Here are the supplies. I know that the cricut has a cartridge that has these similar shapes.

You'll need to punch out 3 of the big flower, 1 of the "leaves" and 2 retro flowers.

Ink all the edges. I like to ink the back also because it will help with the curling.

Score the back of the petals of the 3 flowers

With 1 of the flowers, snip of one of the petals. Curl the edges with a toothpick or whatever you have around.

Put glue on the bottom of the snip and clip the two petal together. Overlapping just a little.

While that is drying curl the tip of the petals of the other 2 flowers and fold the petals in so you have a flat center.

Pinch the ends of the petals at the score lines to give a crease.

Layer one flower on top of the other. Be sure to alternate petals.

Now, with the retro flowers curl the petals in.

Layer them on top of each other, again alternating the petals.

Take the snipped flower and glue it on top of the other two.

Then, the retros on top. You can put whatever you want in the center..brad, button, crystal.

For the leaves I just pinch the tips.

Glue the bottom piece on and you're all done!! You can fluff it up more once it dries, add stickles or glimmer mist for the final touch.
